Our Muslim Women and Girls’ Groups in Surrey Heath provide regular weekly drop in sessions that bring together South Asian women and girls of all nationalities, creeds and cultures, to socialise, learn new skills and improve their wellbeing through activities and trips. The core aim of our group is to build strong local resilient neighbourhoods where people know and support each other.
Teenager Zahra was reluctant to join the group as she lacked confidence. But through group activities and kick boxing sessions, each week Zahra became more outgoing and engaged and her self-esteem grew.
Zahra says: ‘I was not confident when I first joined the group but through the sessions, I have become more confident and have been able to interact in discussions affecting me. I can address issues like race relations, working with others and the importance of being inclusive, both at school and in the community.’
