Statement by Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum on race riots in the UK
Tuesday 6 August 2024
Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum (SMEF) strongly condemns the racist violence in UK towns and cities, following the devastating tragedy in Southport last week.
SMEF stands in solidarity with all communities who have suffered from this obscene violence and fear. We also express solidarity with those serving in police services around the country, especially officers who have directly experienced violence protecting our communities.
SMEF is committed to working with individuals, families, communities, and public and charity sector and interfaith partners, to prevent race hate and violence. We also look to find joint answers to the current climate of racism. Race hate affects us all, whoever we are. United voices and efforts offer powerful solutions to combat racism for societal change.
