Surrey Day - 11 May 2024

On a pleasant sunny day, the Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum organised a vibrant multicultural event to mark Surrey Day, embracing the rich diversity within the county. Neelam Devesher DL, Chair of the Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum, extended a warm welcome to esteemed guests, among whom were the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mary Creswell, and Shahid Azeem, High Sheriff of Surrey, Christine Howard DL, Chair of Visit Surrey alongside representatives from various voluntary and public sector organisations and member groups of SMEF.

Saba Khan, CEO of SMEF, took the reins to introduce an array of captivating performances. The event showcased the talents of the community, featuring a mesmerising dance by students from the Chinese Association of Woking, an enchanting performance by Adelina Berishaj, also from the Chinese Association of Woking, a poignant poem and song by Elaine McGinty representing the Phoenix Cultural Association, an amazing act by 'Little Stars' from the Surrey Hindu Cultural Association, a fusion dance curated by Nishi Joshi Bhatt, founder of Dance Shakti, and evocative poetry by Raj Chehtri, including a heartfelt dedication to his mother in Nepalese and another piece in English reflecting on the significance of Surrey in his life.

The day unfolded with a delightful blend of entertainment, and arts and crafts, catering to the interests of attendees of all ages. The ambiance was one of unity and upliftment, as individuals from diverse backgrounds came together to celebrate the cultures that enrich Surrey's social fabric.
